My sustained investigation is focused on exploring how humans and nature connect through pattern and color. Some guiding questions have been where in nature do humans feel most connected to their surroundings? Why are we drawn towards the patterns of nature and the aesthetics that they provide? How do simple patterns and colors in nature make humans feel? My goal was to create pieces that have many elements that are hidden when looking at it from far away but then can be seen up close.  I utilized silhouettes to allow anyone to feel connected to the pieces. Throughout my sustained investigation I experimented with different ways to incorporate paint chips into my works created with different mediums. I also incorporate surrealism to symbolize the risks we take when searching for a deeper connection with nature or even ourselves. I have always been drawn to surrealism because of how it forces you to see a piece in a different perspective. Overall, I was compelled to work with images of nature because of my love for it and tried to represent the risks we take when searching for a deeper connection with nature or even ourselves.
